While I will not argue the merits of Professor Cooney, the other student, or your arugments regarding the fine country we live in, I do want to point out a few facts:

While it would be a strectch to say that Centre Collge is the finest private college in the country, there is no disputing that it is the finest institution in the state, according to every noted ranking methodology...and it has been ranked that way consistently for decades. Here are just a few stats:

Top-50 national liberal arts college (the only one in KY), U.S. News & World Report
Top-15 Best Value among liberal arts colleges, U.S. News & World Report

• Top-50 best value among private colleges
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance
• No. 16 for Professors Get High Marks
Princeton Review’s The Best 366 Colleges (2008)
• Included in Kaplan’s The Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the
331 Most Interesting Colleges and Barron’s Best Buys in
College Education (2007)

In addition, Centre is the No. 1 value among private liberal arts colleges in the United States according to Consumers Digest.
